WASP-47 Planetary System

WASP-47 Planetary System

Hi Everyone! this is Ramesh here and today
we will know about WASP-47 planetary system. WASP-47 star is located 870 light-years away
in the constellation Aquarius. It is slightly bigger and brighter than our sun. It is a
G-type main-sequence star and is 6.5 billion years old which makes it 2 billion years older
than the Sun. It has high metallicity having twice the amount of iron and other elements
than the Sun. WASP-47 is named after the WASP team which
stands for Wide Angle Search for Planets. WASP comprise of two robotic observatories
one is called SuperWASP-North situated on the island of La Palma in the Canaries and
WASP-South in South Africa. Right now four planets have been discovered
orbiting the star. In 2012 first exoplanet was discovered by the WASP team and designated
WASP-47b which lies in the category of Hot Jupiter Planet. A Hot Jupiter is a Jupiter
like planet orbiting very close to its parent star having orbital period less than 10 Days.
Later 3 more planets were found in 2015. WASP-47b and c are gas giants having a mass
greater than the Jupiter. Wasp-47d is a Hot Neptune like planet that is 3.5 times larger
and 13 times more massive than the earth whereas Wasp-47e is 1.8 times larger and 6.8 times
heavier than the earth. I hope you learn something new from the video.
I will see you next time. Thanks for watching!
