Bee Bot App – iPad Coding and Computing Apps reviewed + Giveaway!

This video will be part of my new series and
playlist on Educational Apps for Android and iOS devices. First up; iOS with the Educational
App called Bee-Bot. Welcome to another ‘Flipped Classroom Tutorial’. In this tutorial I’m going to show you one
of my favourite apps to teach programming to very young children.
A lot of us already know about Bee-Bots. Bee-Bots are programmable floor robots, you can use
these in class. Now there is also an App. This App is free of charge and let’s go ahead
and open it. As you can see: Bee-Bot App. When you first open the App, you can see that
it’s a very colourful and attractive layout. The children will simply click or tap on ‘Play’. Now I’m going to go to the settings and ‘Reset
all the scores’ This is great for when you have different
groups all starting from Level 1. Now let’s go ahead and ‘Play’. We will start with the first level. And you can see that there are stars as rewards;
one star if we can reach the flower, two stars if you make it and it takes you a very long
time or three stars if you do it within the time limit. Let’s go ahead and Start. And similar to the
‘real’ Bee-Bot we have to program using Forward Backwards Turn Left Turn Right And then Go We do have to remind the children to always
Clear the statements by clicking on the X button. Because it doesn’t just ‘Go’ left but Turn
left 90 Degrees. Let’s do ‘One step forward, Go’ This brings us to the Score board. Let’s say FL as in Flipped Classroom. Let’s go to the next level. Level two! These levels continue to get harder and harder,
so the children here, now need to think about how many step forward they will have to ‘code’
or ‘program’. In this case we will have move forward -one
– two – three steps. One Two Three step forward and then we press ‘Go’. Now I’m going to show you an example of Level
ten. So let’s go ahead and go to level ten. As
you can see here the children will have to ‘Debug’ their code. If they are not ready
to program this in one go. they will have to make mistakes and ‘Debug those Mistakes’. So I’m going to navigate to the flower, by
first making a right turn, and as soon as I Press ‘Go’. My Bee-Bot turns, the Bee-Bot
does remember all instructions, it creates an ‘Algorithm’ with different instructions. But it remembers that ‘turn right statement’,
so if I now add a ‘forward’ statement, which is what I want to do, but I forget to ‘Clear’
You will see it Again turns and moves forward. It has NOT forgotten the previous statements.
This is the reason I say ‘Always remember to Clear previous code’. Now I have to Turn left, Move forward. Before adding my next couple of statements
I’m going to clear the code. Left Turn Forward, forward, forward Right Turn Forward, forward, forward Left Turn Forward, forward Left Forward Right Forward, forward Right Forward Now a lot of children Will get to this after
having played with this app for some time. As you can see It follows all the steps exactly as I have
put them in. So, to summarize. A really good and brilliant app to teach children
at a very young age about algorithms and how different instructions follow each other Top
to Bottom. There is also a little added feature which
is the ‘Farm’ So let’s go ahead and open the farm. These are little Bonus levels, let’s open
the second sheep level, I have to push these sheep, herd them, into their pen. Let’s keep going… That’s one! And as you can see the app if very intuitive. The children will love these bonus levels.
In the Top right corner you see a little timer and this timer decides how many stars you
get awarded. Here you have a short explanation on how this
game was created. If you want more information about actual Bee-Bots you can always vist
www.tts-groups.co.uk You see your How to Play basic Controls and
Below in the description of this video You will also find a GiveAway! I will give away a PDF Full Classroom Guide
on how you can use Physical Bee-Bots as well as this app in class. Basic programming skills for Very young children. Go ahead and Scroll down, and find this Giveaway! If you found this video helpful please leave

I will see you in the next one. Thank you for watching!

Close up Wasp – Macro Adventure

Today I want to look for insects. And try to make some Macro Photos. Near where I live
Is a big street. On this Footpath are always hurt or dead Insects. This is Ivy
there are alot of Wasp and a Hornet up there
But I’m here for this. Back at home we are going to look at the findings. They are wasp or yellow jackets. I try to clean the worst
and take it to my microscope. There is still a lot of muck and pollen. They did lay on the ground for a while
so dirt is expected. I try to get some of the Dirt off
whitout destroying them. Next I want to stack some images and make
a big composite for that I take a movie
focus on every part and I try to overlapp a certain amount for
each stack. After I got a focus stack of ervery part of
the Body I cut it out of the movie
and export it as pictures I use Davinci resolve for this. Export as seperate clips in a picture format
and in seperate sub folders After the render is complete
I have 57 folders with images to stack. For the stacking I use Picolay. I open the folder choose my setting an let
it run Importen is I want to save the depth map for
later With every stack completed
I just need to sticth them together using Image composite Editor
That is quite good the wing I stitch manualy
and this is the result Now comes the fun part
You remember we saved the depthmap with picolay we can render a rocking 3D Animation
Just choose a stacked image an its coresponding Depth map
load it as result and depth map choose the dregrees and steps
and let it run if you don’t like the rocking action there
is another way You could do a circular motion you just need
the degrees I want 5 degree max rotation
for 45 Degrees I just take the sin of 45, times the degree I want
it is about 3,5 Degree and for the inbetewens I just take half of
45 22,5 Degree and multiply the sin and cosin
with my desired degree. After that I just add that manually into picolay
And I need to rename every picture so that it stays in the desired order
This is what I end up with. I will put every Programm I used in the comment
below.

Protect Small Honeybee colonies from Robbing and predators Wasp VS Wasp?

okay so here we are on September 4th so it’s very late in the season and what you’re looking at is a box it’s the bottom box of a flow hive and we have a swarm in it very late in the season they’re gonna need every edge we can give them and we’re gonna have to feed these bees one of the things I want you to notice when we’re trying to help out the honey bees is first of all look at this wide entrance this landing board now this hive the bottom board is screened so there’s plenty of ventilation here but we want to give them another edge and that’s giving them a smaller area to defend the culprits of course are robbing bees and the notorious Yellowjackets very simple thing this is regular window screen and I just cut equal lengths of it and tripled it over here and we’re gonna fold it into a little V and just hand push it into this little opening now the flow hive bottom boards do not have the standard size entrance reducer openings they’re a little smaller so we’re just going to loose fit this in there and wasps for example the Yellowjackets can’t pull it out the only thing that’s going to move this would be a mouse or something trying to get in and we’re not worried about that and if it were moved we would know that there’s a mouse around trying to get into our colony here but what we’re trying to cut down on is the amount of effort that they have to put out to defend the colony and of course limit the access zone for the Yellowjackets which sometimes sneaked in on the far edges to either side it’s a small colony the swarm I suspect was about 3 or 4 pounds not huge but not terribly small I think their chances are really good because we’re still going into a pretty strong nectar flow here with the goldenrod the asters they’re getting pollen from a number of sources including sunflowers and this is a simple thing so we’re closing it in without shutting down ventilation we want them to stay cool today is 88 degrees Fahrenheit so now we’ve got about a four inch opening that they can very easily defend and they inspect the beads that are coming in from the field here and this is just a close-up to show you that our guards are doing their job pretty easily notice them grabbing and inspecting every bee that comes in this is a pretty good behavior for a newly captured and hived swarm so I’m pretty pleased with them I had no problems we have Acorn pre-waxed frames inside some have drawn comb if you want to keep your swarm from taking off put a frame of brood in there and they will not leave those developing brood and it gives them a good kick off they’re kind of have their work cut out for them here as we’re gonna run out of resources within the next eight to ten weeks and we’ll talk a little more about the pollen resources in the area but I’m also doing things to other beehives that I have in my apiary and I want to show you some of the landing board and entry differences and what we’re doing about Yellowjackets in the apiary you can hear my chickens in the background here they roam freely through the apiary and they collect bugs all day long and of course this hive is situated in the shade so that’s going to help them out too the blue spruce which is on our right here as we’re looking at the scene is where the swarm congregated and we clipped the branch off and then I put it right on top of the hive this is one of those beesmart design ventilated tops also which vents without allowing other insects to get in like the Yellow Jackets and even the bees can’t come in through the top and now we’re looking at the whole width of the board and the activity is pretty good so it’s good to see them already bringing in pollen which is interesting to me consider they really don’t have any place to put it unless they’re drawing out comb in record time now we’re looking at another standard Langstroth hive this is the landing board and we have not restricted the entrance that’s because there’s an abundance of bees this is an extremely strong colony of bees and they’re more than capable of defending their entrance from the full length of their landing board and there’s something you should notice they are doing deck washing here so if you look at the bees on the leading edge of the landing board they’re all kind of moving forward and going backwards they are licking every inch of the surface of that landing board now to the left you can see that they’re lined up like aircrafts and they’re flapping their wings as much as they can if you could smell it if you were in front of this hive you would notice that it is just heavy with nectar the honey is being dehydrated inside all of the colonies they’re bringing on about 2 to 3 pounds per day and hive numbers are great the health of the bees is fantastic and again you can see the abdomens in the foreground here of those that are doing the deck washing maneuver and you can just listen to it the air movement here is substantial right in front of the hive they really do a fantastic job of ventilating and again this is just a standard Langstroth hive design and notice how big the opening is here where we would normally put an entry reducer and real of course install that later on in the year when their numbers get down in the temperatures drop now we do see some of the drones moving around now we’re at the landing board of the flow hive 2 notice that it has a much smaller entrance we can’t fit standard entry reducers here but also notice that it has an aluminum bottom board cover so it is a ventilated bottom board and we have that plastic tray inside where we can do varroa counts varroa this year are extremely low we’ve not treated I’ve only been able to find one or two four row up per colony so they’re doing a fantastic job of keeping those under control on their own again we’re just showing a nice strong colony they don’t need to have their entrance reduced any more and now we’re looking at another flow hive this is the full size flow hive standard not the flow hive 2- and notice that I did restrict their entrance now we have wooden shims stuck in here and that’s because the bottom board of this colony of this hive is screened so they have plenty of ventilation inside we can pull out the insert and increase ventilation or we can push the insert back in from the back and reduce air circulation as needed so if you may recall if you’ve been watching my other videos these are the colonies that had the new Queen’s installed now this looks like a cast-off box but this is my ongoing experiment in my apiary I’m repurposing old bee boxes that I’ve had and you notice they have the vent holes and this is what I’m culturing in the bee yard this is a paper wasp so I decided early in the year since paper wasps don’t attack or harass the honeybees and I’ve never seen a bee hive being robbed by paper wasps I’ve also seen paper wasps driving off Yellow Jackets so it occurred to me if we install a paper wasp nest intentionally in the apiary then we would displace Yellowjackets and we could use wasps to repel other wasps so the beneficial wasps like these paper wasps wish you a terrific job in pest control are actually being raised by me right here in the apiary and I’m going to show you what their nest looks like here in a second but since they have no impact on the honeybees but do displace Yellowjackets my ongoing experiment is to see if increasing the numbers of paper wasps and providing them with habitat in close proximity to my honeybees would help reduce the numbers of the Yellowjackets and so far that has been working we have Yellowjackets everywhere in the environment this time of year and their numbers are extremely small here in my bee yard so let’s open it up I want you to see what they look like and just like managing bees you just move slowly I’m not smoking them I’m just gonna move slow and deliberate and show you what they’re like here I also want you to notice as they come flying out here listen to how quiet their wings are now they’re actually considering that I’m opening their nest and exposing them they really are not that defensive I am protected with a bee suit I’m wearing a ventilated bee suit because it is so hot today but I’m only wearing surgical gloves and I want to show you this nest they do have capped brood that’s what you see the white cottony looking pieces around the perimeter and there are a couple in the middle of the field here we’ll get you in closer so you can take a look and you can see that summer in the process of hatching we’re coming to the end of their hatching season actually so eventually the last batch that grows here we’ll all be queens and then they will go into the next season after wintering over in solitary locations around the environment so we’re just going to you put them back here again listen to them they don’t sound angry at all they’re very laid-back that doesn’t mean you can’t be stung by them you certainly can this is my experiment that I wanted to share with you and that is that I’m keeping them in the middle of my apiary they have had zero impact on the bees the bees don’t seem to pay attention to them they don’t pay attention to the bees they are not competing with the same they’re not competing for the same resources that the bees do although they do get some nectar they’re mostly pest control they do get some pollen but mostly their protein comes from other insects that they are feeding to they’re developing brood so I think having paper wasps like these in the bee yard is a very interesting method for kind of having a wasp versus wasp situation so that the Yellowjackets don’t have free reign I would never manage Yellowjackets like this they would just boil out and sting you anyone who’s had encounters with Yellowjackets knows that they’re extremely defensive I am within a foot of these guys and they are of course very much on alert but they don’t really consider me personally to be a threat so they didn’t really attack get getting you in closer here get a nice look at them I appreciate your comments down below if you have ever seen paper wasps used to displace Yellowjackets I’d like to know more about that from your personal experiences and I can say that this seems to be working out really well now listen to the difference in wing frequency that’s a yellowjacket flying by me and the paper wants just don’t tolerate it now we also have a large paper wasps nest inside my be shed and I go in and out of it and they don’t pay any attention to me at all I also have them in the eaves on either side of my bee shed again to prevent Yellowjackets from moving in so if I have to have wasps around I would say these paper wasps are at the top of my list for those that are passive towards people yet not passive towards other wasps and species now of course we’re out on the golden rod here and there’s another wasp he is not a great pollinator obviously they don’t have the fur that the bees have there none of those split ends that collect the pollen but this loss is actively getting nectar so not every wasp is a yellowjacket keep that in mind and let me know your thoughts thanks for watching

Burt’s Bees Makeup Drug Store Haul, Review & Beauty How-To Tutorial

Burt’s Bees Makeup Drug Store Haul, Review & Beauty How-To Tutorial

Hey awesome ones, as most of you know I’m
a former 80s model and I’ve done quite a few makeup tutorials. I’ve been seeing
this Burt’s Bees makeup all over the place and thinking to myself what is
this stuff, you know, is it honey and what is it? So I thought I would do a drug
star, a drugstore haul here and not only show you about the makeup but also put
it on my face, test it out and let you know how it works… so let’s go So let’s start with a drugstore haul and
I paid for all this stuff myself by the way, so I just thought I’d point that out,
so this is a real review I got mattifying powder foundation, I got
mascara… what else did I get ,oh my gosh I got an
eye brow pencil with a spoolie on it, I also got a beautiful blush and a palette
of eyeshadow and it all costs less than $100 and for makeup that’s pretty good.
Now when I was at the drugstore I couldn’t find the concealer for Burt’s
Bees products also I couldn’t find a primer and I do like to use a primer
with an SPF, the one I’m using today is an SPF 50 so I did find the concealer on
line though yay… so what we’re going to do is in the description of this video
we’re gonna put a link back to our blog and I’m gonna itemize all kinds of of
the products not only the Burts Bees products but also the SPF 50 that I’m
wearing and the concealer and maybe some brushes or something along those lines
so not only is this video all about reviewing and and applying the Burt’s
Bees makeup but I also have another idea that I’m trying to achieve here and that
is I want to make up that goes on in like less than three minutes and also
looks really, really natural and fresh and clean and all that sort of thing so
yeah… oops I forgot to mention too that if you do get something from our blog
I’ve got the prices and everything there and some links we do make a little bit
of commission so thank you so much if you do purchase something because it
really helps us to keep going with these videos so thanks so much
but Burt’s Bees products what’s the big deal about these anyway? So like I said are they made of honey or what’s going on, well I did a
little bit of research on this and there’s, I think I’m saying it right,
jojoba oil in them, there is honey in the products, some of them have bamboo which
we know there’s a lot of bamboo out there so it’s kind of a natural product
to source, the other thing that I was reading about is hundred percent
everything that I read every single package label and I looked at them all
100% natural and the other things I’m going to have to read this, it’s saying
they’re dermatologist tested and they have no parabens, phthalates I don’t know
what that is, but anyway it doesn’t have any of those in it and it also doesn’t
have any petroleum so they’re really working on this to bring us a real
natural product so that’s the story. So let’s keep it real, no makeup on, well hey
I’m gonna do a video on makeup so I have to start off with no makeup all I have
on is my SPF 50 primer and also some concealer so what we’re going to do is
we’re going to sort of spend ,it’s really hot out there today, so we’re gonna spend
a day kind of going shopping, walking the dog that sort of thing and then little
Hurricane, my little Yorkie and I will come back at the end of this video and
let you know how the makeup worked so I chose the powder foundation because I
want to really do this makeup really, really quick and they also had the
liquid foundation but you know as too much this and that… I want
it’s like real fast and go now originally I was going to just use a
brush like this to apply it and they say yeah you can use a brush but then I
found a little applicator and I went yes, that’s awesome, cute, so
I chose for me this color is Sand and I’m just going to put a little bit
of of this on and hope it works with this SPF primer sometimes it doesn’t
but let’s, let’s just check it out here. I’ve got a mirror over here so once in a
while I’m going to be checking on that but I also have a mirror here so
does that work for you Bill if I decide to look like that? Okay let’s start off
with the nose, nice safe little area, ooh it’s really taking off the shine which
it’s called mattifying, it’s covering up – yay this is actually pretty cool
we’ll see at the end of the video how it stays on but can you see how this shine
is, let me just show you a little bit again here ,do you see how the shine is
really just going away, there I’ll do my forehead now see and that’s what you
want I don’t want to look, especially in the hot weather, you don’t want to look
too shiny so just let me, I said I was going to get a makeup that did
things quick so let’s just sort of start doing this quick, a little bit more on it
and away we go So far so good, okay so now for the blush
and guess what a little piece of paper in here but it says on the back of the
paper what does it says to protect the natural pigments of our hundred percent
natural blush we’ve added this paper made of 100% post-consumer recycled
content this will ensure you get the beautiful results you expect naturally.
So I guess it’s kind of protecting it from any other elements so don’t throw
this piece of paper away now with this blush I chose Shy Pink and I thought it
would look really pretty, no applicator in here, sorry so you gotta
use your makeup brush and I’m just going to use this is a fairly clean brush,
so I’m going to just kind of dab in here a little bit and then I will apply now I
gotta be really careful with applying because you want to lightly apply,
you want to really be light on this you want to sort of the the apples of your
cheeks to look nice and you know look fresh and remember this is a real quick
makeup too but because it’s quick I’m not going to use a contouring or
anything like that or any highlighter shiny thing so I’m gonna make sure also
that I’m going to do my cheekbones a little bit they’re a little bit under
here a little bit on this cheekbone – and how about just down the sides along
the forehead so looking in the mirror here and I I think it’s really quite
natural-looking yeah so now for the eyes and I really
like this you know there’s a little palette that you can get
and it has the highlighter the eyeshadow and also a great color for the crease
and if you see some of my other videos you know I from my coloring anyway I
love purples and this one is called Countryside Lavender so unfortunately
there are no eyeshadow brushes or anything with this so I’m just going to
use a clean cotton swab and let’s put the highlighter one on first so I’m
just going to kind of get a little bit of that on there maybe a little bit on
this one too and let’s see how this works… goes on nicely mmm-hmm little bit up here end up here
for a highlighter easy peasy. Now let’s do, hmm I guess what we’re
going to do is we’re going to put the eyeshadow part on now if you’ve seen my
video if you see my video on hooded eyes I’m going to try to apply something
similar to the hooded eyes without the eyeliner so this should be interesting
I’m 62 now and I developed these hooded droopy eyes which you can see but by the
time I’m finished with this makeup I’m hoping that they’re going to have a
little bit of a lift and I’m going to put that video up there somewhere so you
can take a look at the whole tutorial so let’s start off with this now this is a
little bit of a shine to it I usually don’t like a lot of shine in my
eyeshadows but the crease looks very matte so I think it’s gonna work out
okay for me so let’s go… I usually also start just in the middle
I don’t go right into here and follow the natural shape of the eye you see
that just keep going here follow the natural shape of the eye this give you a little bit more of a
view here and see how I’m lifting it a little bit to kind of combat that a
little droopiness that I got going so I’m also going to take a little bit of a
risk here so I’m not too sure how it’s gonna work out to be honest with you I’m
going to use a brush like this and going to put a little bit of liner with the
crease one under my eyes the reason I don’t know if it’s gonna work or not is
because it just takes an excess off here I don’t want to I hope it’s not gonna
turn out to red so let’s just see because this is really gonna help the
droopy eye thing so let’s go like this… oh actually it’s looking good and up yeah that works, you see how that’s just
the two eyes together you can probably see now I’m going to smooth it out a
little bit more but it’s giving me more of an uplift there so um yeah of course
I’m not gonna leave it looking exactly like that we’re gonna blend, blend, blend,
blend, blend I use my fingers for blending they were marvelous and let’s
just do the other side here too and again when I’m doing this I’m gonna do
it quick I’m just kind of showing you guys so that you can see it, okay so over
here a bit so I’m not blocked on my face with the the mirror up a little bit and
away we go I may have just put on a little too
heavy here so you can always take it off yeah that works,
now let’s do a little bit in the crease as well and again I’m using an angled
brush for this and I’ll be linking back to my blog in the description for some
of these items too so let’s just go here get a little bit on there and again I’m
going natural look but I still one little definition so right in the crease
right in the crease yes it looks phony I know but (that’s
Hurricane snoring you having a good sleepr little Yorkie?) so uh no it’s
not me, blame it on the dog, oh look, what happens in the videos, stays in the
videos. Yeah I do a little bit more smoothing out but they think I’m liking
it Let’s get onto the mascara, all right so
it’s mascara time and I picked the black in this mascara you know I could have
gone for a brown or something like that but no I just thought I’d pick the black
on this one no it’s really you know all of these products as I mentioned before
are 100% natural and let’s just see what this one says oh it’s really small
writing but it says that it’s safe for sensitive eyes, contact lens wearers or
some orthologist tested and hmm that sounds really good so now the proof for
me after I put this on is when I’m wearing it during the day because I
really want to check out the smudge proof tests of it all and you know that
I don’t end up with kind of like raccoon eyes especially like I said it’s pretty
hot out there so again there’s time trying this out, nourishing mascara. I
will not pump my mascara, a lot of you told me don’t do that, almost looks like
it’s brown right, read the label because you might think that they don’t
have the black there but because I think they put them all in the same containers
anyway so just try this out now as you know I like to put on several coats of
mascara you maybe don’t want to but that’s just me so what I’m gonna do is
just put on one layer now goes on okay we’ll see how
the second layer goes on I’m just going to put one layer underneath again I’m
going for a very natural look so I don’t want to overdo it but I do also want to
test this and make sure that whatever is going on underneath like I said is not
smudging so up we go with the mascara Yes it’s not clumping or anything, is
it’s looking pretty good so let’s move on to the lipstick and then we’ll come
back and do another coat so I already had a couple of Burt’s Bees little lip
the colored lip shimmers already in my makeup stash so I just thought I’d show
this to you, now they do make a lipstick as well but I’ve been using this and
loving it so I’m going to show you what I do this one is called Rhubarb and this
baby is called Strawberry so what I do is I just take a little lip brush you
can see this is well loved and I’m going to put a little bit on a lip brush it’s
so hot in here it is melting a little bit
hmmm so interesting, so I’m going to put, see I even made a mistake there but I
can fix it. I really wouldn’t suggest putting on the
dark red without a brush because it kind of goes a little bit all over the place
especially as I can see if it’s really hot (there goes Hurricane snoring again) that little
Yorkie. Isn’t that pretty, so what I like about this is it’s very natural you can
almost feel like a medication, it’s a hundred percent natural the product, but
it also looks really natural and I have worn this and it’s almost like a lip
stain it really seems to stay on. Now you’re thinking, hey she talked about the
pink what’s with that so what I do with the pink is I take this it’s so tiny
that I can take this with me you know in my front pocket jeans, I mean it’s just
teeny tiny and what I like about it is for right now I’m just going to put a
shimmer on so pretty so it’s just a real quick shimmer it doesn’t melt it doesn’t
matter if it melts a little bit I mean it is really in its cap here but during
the day as I’m moving along I can be sitting in the car in the dark and still
just go and and put this shimmer on because it’s not really, really dark it’s
gonna look nice so yeah, I love these little ones so let’s take this
opportunity to do another layer of mascara and you know what I’m finding
I’m only going to have to do two layers of mascara this stuff’s going on really
well and again I want more of a natural look so I don’t want to pile it on so
just a little bit ,little bit I like to put a little bit in the corner so again
I got that little upswing in the corner which helps me with a hooded eye
situation so that’s a really pretty mascara not clumpy separating the
eyelashes so I like that So I mentioned about the eyebrows, oh boy
eyebrows are really tough to do and I am missing some hairs in my
eyebrows so I’m gonna put up my eyebrow tutorial that I did for all of you
people that have challenges with your eyebrows like I do so but let’s talk
about this product that I got I love it you know the prices are so good too
because this is it’s an eyebrow pencil with a spoolie on it which is awesome
and take a look at that so let’s see how this works something else they said on
this too is that the they say here it has Jo-Joba oil I hope I’m pronouncing
that right, you guys let me know if I’m pronouncing it right and it’s
responsibly sourced cedar wood pencil 99.9% natural wood, these guys are really
conscious about that so I like that, so let’s just brush my eyebrows up what’s
left of them and I chose the blonde here I’m not too sure if this is gonna work
maybe it’s too light for me but I’m doing a natural makeup so do I really
want to put a brownish color eyebrow, yeah I don’t so let’s just um let’s work…
Oh actually I want to say like I went out and bought this stuff myself so I’m
not just saying this… this is really nice and you know what it’s a perfect color
for me see the difference in the two eyebrows already you know that’s the
difference with shaping so I’m gonna give it a little bit more of a brush
here mmm let’s try this one and cuz it’s not too dark if I make a
little bit of a mistake it’s not gonna be the worst thing that’s where the
hairs aren’t even there right there um I want a little bit more definition here
and here your eyebrows frame your face so take an extra second or two I’m gonna
bring it up a bit so I look like I’m bright-eyed yeah bring this guy up a
little bit so he looks like he’s bright-eyed. What do you think? Good so what do you
think I absolutely love this makeup so far, it went on like a dream and it
looks so natural and remember I don’t have any lip liner on I don’t have any
eyeliner on I don’t have any contouring or that highlighter stuff you know to
make my cheeks shiny it’s also under these lights and the heat here it seems
to be holding up really, really well and I’m almost inclined to think that even
if when I go outside if it’s really getting shiny my makeup I think I’m
going to be okay using this natural product to just sort of maybe powder my
nose a little bit we’ll have to check that out I don’t think it’s gonna go on
pancakey at all, the other thing I like about this company besides the hundred
percent natural products that I’m putting on my face is the fact that they
really seem to be responsible they were talking about what was it recycled or
responsibly sourced cedar for their pencils, there’s bamboo that’s in a lot
of the products as well which I think we all know that bamboo grows really, really
fast it’s a great product too if you’ve got to put some kind of
wood, whatever in something it’s a great product to use so but I do want to do a
little test so now for the official wearability test I’m gonna walk the dog
it’s really hot out there it’s a hot day I’m gonna go a little grocery shopping
and I’m gonna walk to the grocery shopping I’m gonna hang out a little bit
with a guy behind the camera my husband Bill, say hi Bill. Hi Bill and stay tuned
and let’s see if this makeup holds up Got our desserts for tonight It’s really sunny
I’m really really hot. So Bill little Hurricane and myself we’re back and I’m
really, really happy with this Burt’s Bees makeup I really am. I put a little
bit more of that lip shimmer on for this conclusion, end of the test sort of thing,
but I’m really, really happy because you can probably see that you can tell with
my hair how humid, it’s got to be like 90 degrees out there, but underneath my eyes
the mascara did not sort of give me the raccoon looking eyes, now I am a little
bit shiny but I because this is so, it’s not really heavy and it’s matte I’m
going to sort of dot the side dab the shine a little bit and you can see my
cheek right ,not my cheek, I’m so tired from walking in that heat, sorry
about that , uh I’m just going to do a little dab here and look at it’s
taking it right away a little bit here and it’s not thick it’s um it’s kind of
naturally doing that so awesome. Thumbs up for this makeup I love it and you
know what I’m going to be wearing this makeup but really I’m going to wear it
when I want to look natural and be glowing and all that sort of thing so
get the play on words beee glowy it’s great and I’m a fan so talking about
fans… Hurricane and I and Bill we’re just so grateful for all the fans and
subscribers to our channel thank you so so much and you know I found out about, I
should know about these things, but anyway I found out about this bell and

Ants colour vision may help march towards robot technology

Well what we thought before was that ants
have only two photoreceptors to see colours, which gives them colour vision but very poor
colour vision. A bit more similar to your dog or your wallaby
which can see colours but see more on a relative scale, they see colours out of green, or bluer
or redder. They don’t have such a rich colour experience. What we found is we looked at the colour vision
system of ants and we found that an ant have actually three photoreceptors that see different
types of colours. Which gives them a colour vision system that
is not dissimilar to ours, so they have very good colouration. But interestingly what we don’t have is they
can see UV light, so they’re system is short wavelengths shifting from ours. They see UV,
blue and green light where as we see blue green, yellow and red light. One of the species we studied is night active,
so they actually operate on light intensities where you and I would be totally colourblind,
we only have one receptor, our rods, that function at night and so we can’t see any
colours at night. These animals, even in the middle of the night
will probably be able to see full range of colours. For us the interesting thing is that these
animals are really small, so they have a very small visual system and have an even smaller
brain, that has a very low capacity to process information. Yet when you look at the animal they are very
sophisticated, they can navigate on their own they are good decision makers. So how do they do it with such limited recourses. And that’s something that biologists and the
robotics world is really interested in. How you can make a miniturised system that
can make autonomous decisions. There are many examples of how biology have
inspired engineers to build better robots because it tells us how can you make short
cuts in your design. So you dont have the time to crunch all the numbers to find something
out but you just use those bits of information that are really critical to achieve a certain
goal. But that’s what animals have evolved to do
and that’s what they’re good at.

How To Prevent Numb Hands | Ask GCN Anything About Cycling

How To Prevent Numb Hands | Ask GCN Anything About Cycling

(lively music) – Welcome to another
edition of Ask GCN anything. Without further ado, we’re
going to get right in with the questions with this
over on Twitter from Ian M. Stewart who asks,
“Hey GCN, when I ride, “even for an hour, my hands get numb. “Is it my stem, my bars, or my grip? I’m trying not to grip the
bars too tightly. #torqueback.” Well Ian, thank you very
much for getting in touch. Now, pain, numbness, and
tingling in the fingers and hands is actually quite a common
problem for cyclists, regardless of experience. In fact, I did have quite
a bit of numbness in hands over the weekend when I rode
the King of the Mountains Challenge in Taiwan, so it
is something that affects lots and lots of cyclists. Now, it’s basically, from
a medical perspective, called ulnar neuropathy and it
happens when the ulnar nerve, which runs from the root here, right way down through your arm, finishing in your little finger. It’s when the ulnar nerve is compressed, generally by long periods of
time, in one set position. So either on the tops,
or quite a lot in fact, on the drops, where basically
there’s pressure on this part of your hand. Now, it can cause tingling
as I mentioned before, often pain. This can be alleviated by
regularly shifting your position on the handlebars but if
it becomes a particularly persistent problem, you need
to start to look at what the root cause is and we
do that in this video. – Keeping this position on
the bike whilst removing your hands from the bars so that way
you’re going to recruit more of your core muscles and your
arms, hands, and wrists are going to be bearing less weight. So you should look at things
like the height of your bars or maybe the angle of the
shifters, et cetera, as well. If they’re too low, it might
be you’ve just got too much weight going through
your hands and wrists. – Next up, we have this
question down in the comments section from Owen Jones. “Hey guys, I know you measure
your saddle height from the “centre of the bottom bracket
to the top of the saddle but “this confuses me a little bit. “Doesn’t the length of the cranks, “or the rise from your shoes or cleats, “make a difference? “Or is the calculation
based on average length “or height for both, so it
will need to be adjusted “accordingly? Thanks for the
consistently great content.” That was very kind, Owen. Thanks very much for getting in touch. Basically, you have
answered your question, you are right. You do need to adjust your
saddle height inclemently, only very slightly, when
moving, when changing saddles, for example, ’cause if
you’ve got a different shape of saddle, that can
actually determine how high or low you sit on it. One of the most fundamentally
important things to double check on as well
is the type of pedal system that you’re using. So, if you’re moving from
one pedal system to another, the stack height could be a
couple of millimetres different and that goes, and the same
can be said for different shoes as well. So, what you need to draw
out this question basically, and what is fundamentally important, once you’ve got your
ideal set up on your bike, is make a note of the exact distance. So measure your saddle height and keep it and then basically you
can adjust accordingly if you were to move onto a
different bike, for example, or a higher bike or you
were to change saddles or pedal systems. Now, we do know, it’s pretty
common knowledge, isn’t it, that getting a saddle
height right is important for comfort, for efficiency, et cetera. But exactly how important is it? Well me and Sy went to a lab
to answer that very question. – Believe it or not, out
of all the presenters, he’s actually the most obsessive
about his saddle height, which is ironic given that
he spends so much of his time not even clipped in. One. – There’s two. – Hey. – We’re gonna test two key parameters. Firstly, my seated maximal sprint power. And Secondly, my ability
to hold a specific sub threshold power, whilst at
the same time measuring my expired gases, my blood
lactate, and also my heart rate. Boop, boop, boop, boop. It’s time now for the rapid fire round. First up is this from Paul Holden, “How come you guys never
seem to have covered Titanium “bikes? How about an in
depth Titanium versus “Carbon feature?” That is a very, very good idea. We have actually written
that one down now, thanks very much for that. Wouter Peters says, “Any
hacks to prevent remnants “of a gel leaking out the
packaging and spreading into “your back pocket, other
than throwing them away?” Very, very good, green
question there Wouter. What I’ve done in the past is
fold them up really, really tightly and then put them
inside the little bag I’ve got with my inner tubes. Also, you can put them in the
pack underneath your saddle, so in your saddle bad as
well and that way they won’t leak into your pocket. Next up we’ve got this from
Ben Dolby, “I’ve got absolutely “nothing against Lasty but we
need to see him suffer more.” (dramatic music) Thumbs up from me there
Ben, great comment. Next up is this from Jack
Larkin Mchugh who asks, “Please do an episode where
all the GCN presenters “get so much money to buy a
bike and then have to cycle “a bike to a destination and
do challenges with the bike.” All I’m gonna say is, watch this space. Next up we have this from
Ewan Chadwell, “What happens “if the world champion also
wins the European championships? “Obviously the rainbows would
take priority over the stars “but what happens to the
European jersey? Is it not worn “or is it worn by the second
place rider, like when a jersey “owned by someone who owns
another jersey in a tour? “Sorry for the length.” Yeah, thanks for the apologies,
that was a rather long and convoluted question
but basically the answer is Peter Sagan, a couple
years ago, was European and world champion. He first wore the European
champion but then, as you said, the world champion’s jersey trumps it, so if that happens in
the future, basically, very sadly, that Europeans
champions jersey will be put in a drawer and nobody else
can ride with it at all, which is a little bit sad. So, no, second place can’t use it. This question now from Darren
Whitford, “It rained the “other day on my ride, it
doesn’t happen very often in “Australia, what can I do to
keep the traction on my back “wheel when climbing out of the saddle?” Well, first up, you need to
look at your tyre pressure. Make sure that if you’re
going out in the rain that your tyres aren’t too
hard but on a steep climb what you need to do is
redistribute your weight a little bit more over the back wheel. So rather than leaving
forward, which you generally do on a steep climb, just push
your arms back a little bit, put some of the body
weight over the back wheel, and that should improve your traction. And finally, we have this
rather long winded question for the rapid fire round
from Barnaby Grant. Deep breath. “If you’re having trouble with
junctions and intersections “for interval training,
instead of trying to stick to a “preset interval plan, try
using the junctions and “roundabouts and stop signs as part of the “interval training.” This, by the way, is an
answer to one of last week’s questions about stopping
during interval training out on your bike. “I have a 30km out and back
route with a roundabout at least “every kilometre and I use the
roundabouts as markers for my “efforts. Between one pair I’ll sprint, the next, then recover. “The next might be a 10
second effort with 20 second “recoveries or a ramped up heart rate.” Basically, that is a top
haul suggestion for basically using your environment,
your road furnishing, your traffic for basically
doing a tall cliff. Spot on Barnaby. And that’s it for the rapid fire round. Okay, time to just slow
things down a little bit with this question from
Danial Adzha down in the comments section. He asks, “Um, how do you use
gears the right way because “I normally use gears 11,
eight, seven, and one. Have you “got any help please GCN?” Well Daniel, thanks very
much for getting in contact. Now many of you out there, of
no doubt, will think this is a pretty basic question but
for people who are new to the sport, this actually
can take quite a long time to get your head around. ‘Cause when you think about
it, if you’ve been riding for a few years and you start
to break down everything that you know about cycling,
it actually is pretty amazing because you absorb that information almost through a process of osmosis. So, for somebody new to the sport, no question is a silly one. And generally speaking, we
have a video for every single question that people ask. And Daniel, to answer
your question directly, here’s me, explaining exactly how. Firstly, on the right, the
lever being fully inwards changing you to a bigger cog at the back, which actually makes it easier. Now on here, I’ve got electric
gears so I’m just using the paddles. On the left hand side, when
you swing the mechanical lever inwards, or tap the electric
paddle, it makes it, or turns it to the bigger cog
at the front, or chain ring, which is actually harder. And finally, on this week’s
Ask GCN Anything, we have this question down in
the comments section from Eurotropo who asks, “I got a
hell of a climb that I want to “improve at, therefore I
believe easier gears will help. “Should I change the cassette
or the smaller chain ring?” Well Eurotrop, thanks
for getting in contact. Now, getting easier gears will
certainly help you get over the steeper elements or the
steeper parts of the slope far more effectively and efficiently. As we all know, if you’re
churning at a low cadence on a gear it becomes inefficient, you start to recruit
a lot of muscle groups and it basically is very inefficient, unless you are a particular
forceful and strong rider. So, ideally, on a climb,
you need to have a gear that enables you to get on top of the gear and actually ride in
a nice, smooth rhythm. Now, I don’t exactly know
what gears you’ve got on your bike so I can’t really tell if
you need to change the front or the back, but an ideal
starting point for a gear with very wide ratio which will
suit pretty much any ability for most sorts of terrain,
would be a 34 or a 36 chain ring at the front and
at the back you want to look at the minimum of a 28, a
30, or a 32 and that way you should pretty much get
over any sort of climb that the terrain should throw at you. But, as well as getting
your gears dull, which fundamentally is very
important, it’s also worth trying to improve on your fitness as well. You’ll definitely climb
faster if you’re fitter but if you want a little
bit of a short cut, how about watching this video. How to climb faster
without getting any fitter. – You’re more likely to be
able to ride your optimal power if you’re at your optimal
cadence, so get yourself a compact chain set, combined
with a 32 at the rear, and you’ll almost always
have the optimal gear to use. No matter what the gradient,
no more grinding away. (soft music) – However, what we would
suggest is spending around 95% of your time in the saddle
but deliberately getting out of the saddle every so often. – So that’s it for another
edition of Ask GCN Anything. Thanks, as ever, for
all of your questions, we do love reading them. And get in touch using
the hashtag torqueback down in the comments section

Wasp-Stung Lips?

Wasp-Stung Lips?

– Hello and welcome to The Doctors, and hello to this awesome crowd. (audience cheers) For bringing some great energy with you. Thank you for being here. We’re also joined by breast
surgeon, Dr. Christie Funk who is back in the house with us. – Good morning, thank you. – I love that blue. You two match actually. – We do. We’re very blue. – You didn’t bring a
necklace for me though. – I’ll get you some sparkles. – Okay, thank you. Alright ya’ll, we have a big show in store and what’s really cool is
we’re gonna tease this. It’s a five-dollar secret
that super model Adriana Lima uses for her beautiful long hair. We’re gonna reveal that,
her personal beauty tip, later in the show, but first, speaking of beauty, check out this guy’s solution for getting those full Kylie Jenner lips without any surgery. – Ladies, tired of spending
thousands of dollars on collagen lip injections just to get vibrant, luscious lips
you’ve always wanted? Well, here’s an easy tip: Have two wasps sting you. Boom boom. Right in the lips. And then kapow! Kim Kardashian’s gonna be looking at you for lips for days. Can’t handle all this. Totally free. You know what I just spent on this? Nothing. Went to chase some car keys, pow pow! Mm, two yellow jacket stings on the lip later and boom! Who doesn’t want some of that? Sad face. Duck lips. On fleek. – Please welcome, via Skype, Joe Rivas to the show. Joe, what happened to your lips? (laughs) – Well we were gonna go eat sushi hibachi with my wife and we were going downstairs from the apartment. And I realized that we
forgot to lock the door so my son had ran upstairs so I went to toss him the keys Needless to say, he didn’t catch em. He get’s that from my
wife’s side, not mine. Very athletic. Hit a yellow jackets’ nest under the steps and startled them. And I walked over to go pick up my keys and when I bent over, one of them stung the back of my neck so when I jumped up, I guess two of them decided to give me kiss
on the mouth real quick. (crowd laughs) It was not very fun. I was a little worried though because I’ve been allergic from when I was younger from getting stung by wasps. So the first thing I’m doing is running up the stairs
trying to Google remedies. I didn’t have an tobacco at the house because my mom used it when I was little. Put tobacco and I guess water on it to take down swelling and stuff. So as I was running up the stairs Googling and you can use baking soda and water, and then ice it, take Benedryl. So, I’m trying to do all
three of these things at once. – At what point, Joe,
did you take the video? Was that at a point when you realized- because I’m to right now. If my lip is that swollen, I’m starting to think of anything but doing a video. – [Dr. Orden] I would
have been scared to death. My whole face could have
swelled up like that. – [Dr. Funk] I think he had
the video right around then. – That is impressive. Drew’s a little that the wasps are gonna put him out of business. – Yeah, I mean, if they’d have gotten the bottom lip too, you really would have had a set of lips there. But it just goes to show that lips can really
swell up dramatically. And patients that we treat with fillers, treat their lips, those swell up. Not quite like that. But the good news is, and he’s proof, that the swelling does go away. – With the ice and antihistamine. I don’t think that the
baking soda and vinegar. That plan wasn’t so good. These venom things get
deep into the tissue and that’s just surface. So you need to get into your system with an antihistamine. Did you chase it with beer? – Yes ma’am. I was wondering when you’ll ask. – Was that just the remedy that you came up with yourself? It’ll probably ease the pain a little bit. – Oh yeah. – Well you don’t want to
combine sedatives and alcohol. – Well the cold beer can put on your lips that could have helped a little bit. – And then move it down and tilt it back? – Yeah! – Well needless to say, Joe, we’re very happy that you’re doing well. You are quite the comedian, I have to give you credit. And also, allowing us to
talk about some of the dos and don’ts so, Joe, thanks so much for being with us. And, incidentally, it’s really important to remember Joe was stung
locally on the lips. If you’re stung and
your lips start to swell like that and there was not a sting near your lips, you have to assume you’re having a massive allergic reaction. Those lips can swell, your tongue, that can compromise your airway. At that point in time it’s
a true medical emergency.
